Description
Giant Kelpfish: Heterostichus rostratus
These lovely slender fish grow up to two feet long. They vary in color: some being greenish-yellow, green or like these – a reddish-brown with silver stripes. They are found in kelp beds as well as in rocky areas with eel grass, leafy red algae and jointed coralline algae to depths of 22 fathoms.
Their range is from British Columbia, to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California. They feed on crustaceans, mollusks and various fishes.
